Scoping of the review

  • During this first phase of the review, we will be consulting the wider IFRS community with the purpose of establishing the scope of the review. The identification of the areas in which possible unexpected costs or implementation problems were encountered will lead to the publication of the Request for Information, which will be published for public comment.
Stage completed: January 2008

Request for Information published 30 January 2014

Follow up work

The Board completed the PIR of IFRS 3 in June 2015 with the publication of the Report and Feedback Statement.
Since then it has commenced two follow-up projects:

  1. Definition of a business
  2. Goodwill and impairment

At its meeting in May 2016 the Board discussed the feedback received in the 2015 Agenda Consultation in relation to the remaining issues identified in the IFRS 3 PIR Report and Feedback Statement. At its meeting in July 2016 the Board decided not to include in its work plan and research pipeline any of the areas identified on pages 8–10 of the Report and Feedback Statement Post-implementation Review of IFRS 3 Business Combinations, other than work on its projects relating to Goodwill and Impairment and the Definition of a Business.

The PIR of IFRS 3 is now complete.
