Joint IFRS Foundation and INCP IFRS Conference in the Americas

23 and 24 November 2015, Hotel Las Americas Cartagena, Colombia

The conference brings together leaders in financial reporting from the private sector, regulatory bodies and members of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), as well as accounting professionals and others with an interest in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

Presenters included Hans Hoogervorst (IASB Chairman), IASB members—Amaro Gomes, Darrel Scott and Stephen Cooper—and other IFRS experts.

The conference focused mainly on the implementation plans for new Standards, particularly:
•   IFRS 9 Financial Instruments by financial institutions;
•   IFRS 9 Financial Instruments by non-financial institutions
•   IFRS 15 Revenue from Contracts with Customers; and
•   Implementing for the first time the IFRS for SMEs

Other parallel sessions included exploring the forthcoming requirements for leases and insurance contracts.

In addition, a pre-conference special interest session—Fair Value Measurement and Other Cross-cutting Measurement Issues was held from 09:30–12:00 on Monday 23 November.

The conference provided an excellent opportunity to learn from the experiences of those that have already implemented or are preparing to implement the major new IFRSs.  It also provided an understanding of the thinking behind the IASB projects, as well as insight into the future direction of financial reporting from those responsible for setting it.
