 Joint HKICPA and IFRS Foundation IFRS Conference

The Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) and IFRS Foundation are jointly hosting an IFRS Conference on 12 and 13 October at the JW Marriott Hotel, Hong Kong.

The conference brings together leaders in financial reporting from the private sector, regulatory bodies and members of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), as well as accounting professionals and others with an interest in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

The conference focused mainly on the implementation plans for new Standards, particularly:
•   IFRS 9 Financial Instruments by financial institutions;
•   IFRS 9 Financial Instruments by non-financial institutions; and
•   IFRS 15 Revenue from Contracts with Customers.

Other parallel sessions explored the forthcoming requirements for leases and insurance contracts.

There were also panel discussions on:
•   IFRS disclosures–innovations; and
•   IFRS measurements and other cross-cutting issues.

The IASB Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Members updated the audience on active projects and future plans in financial reporting, including the Conceptual Framework, macro hedging, rate regulated activities, implementation projects and research projects. 

Keynote address by Carlson Tong, Chairman of the Securities and Futures Commission.

Following the conference, a half-day workshop on implementing the IFRS for SMEs was held from 14:00–16:30 on Tuesday 13 October.
