John Stanford


John Stanford, Advisory Council Member  

John Stanford is Technical Director with the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IPSASB).
 
He represents the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) on the IFRS Advisory Council. IFAC is the global organisation for the accountancy profession, dedicated to serving the public interest by strengthening the profession and contributing to the development of strong international economies.

IFAC facilitates the operations of four independent standard-setting boards:

  • the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board;
  • the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants;
  • the International Accounting Education Standards Board; and
  • the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board.

John joined IPSASB in 2005 and has led some of the IPSASB’s key projects including the development of a Public Sector Conceptual Framework as well as developing strategic priorities. Latterly, John has been heavily involved in the introduction of robust governance to the IPSASB.

Prior to working with IPSASB, John spent five years as Assistant Director (Technical and International) with the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy. Previously he has worked for the UK Audit Commission and the Audit Office of New South Wales.

John has postgraduate degrees in the electoral politics of the United States from the University of Essex and an undergraduate degree from the University of London.
